It was a day of fun, sun, and safety as members of the Yale Police Department (YPD) and Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) came together to teach the children of Yale Graduate Housing residents about bike safety. In the courtyard of the Whitehall Apartments YPD and YNHH volunteers passed out nearly 30 free bike helmets, safety tips, and first-aid kits so the kids could get their ride on while being safe.
This bike safety event was held in late April. During the rodeo, the kids, who ranged in age from 3 to 10, were riding everything from scooters and tricycles to bikes without training wheels and both them and their parents had a great time navigating the course of traffic cones set up by the volunteers. The event was a success thanks to the help and dedication of the Yale Graduate Housing Children’s Coordinator, Ally Dunn. Thanks to all the YPD officers and members of the Injury Prevention Department at YNHH for their help in organizing this fun event and to the families that attended, all of whom made the event a huge success.
