Sustainable Living

Yale Graduate Housing is committed to fostering a culture of sustainability. Whether you are donating household items, growing fresh vegetables, or finding a new home for gently used furniture, there are many ways to reduce waste and make a positive impact on campus.

Core Sustainability Initiatives

  • The Swap Room: Located at Whitehall, this community resource allows residents to donate gently used household goods, electronics, and small furniture, or pick up needed items for free.
  • The Community Garden: An on-campus green space where residents and their families can claim garden plots, grow fresh produce, and participate in community planting workshops.
  • Spring Salvage Program: Our annual year-end move-out initiative. Instead of throwing items away, residents can donate furniture, rugs, and appliances to be stored and redistributed to incoming students in the fall.
  • Events & Volunteering:
    • Sustainability Events: Look out for regular upcycling workshops, clothing swaps, and waste-reduction panels hosted throughout the academic year.
    • Volunteer Opportunities: Help sort donations in the Swap Room, assist with garden upkeep, or join the team during the busy Spring Salvage move-out week.
