Housing Waitlist FAQs

How do I join the waitlist?
Students can join the housing waitlist by visiting the Undergraduate Housing Portal and navigating to the “Request Housing” tab. From there, students will be able to indicate for which term they are requesting housing for and provide any additional relevant information to their request.

Is the waitlist available year round?
Students can submit a request for housing via the Housing Portal.
  • Requests for Fall term housing can be submitted beiginning in February (after the intent declaration deadline has passed) up until the start of Fall term classes.
  • Requests for Spring term housing can be submitted beginning in October up until the start of Spring term classes.
Please note that students seeking on-campus housing after the start of a given term should write to the Undergraduate Housing Office. Requests submitted in the middle of a term (mid-semester request) require additional approval and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

When will I know if there’s housing available for students on the waitlist?
  • Fall Term Placement Period
    • The placement period for the fall term opens after the spring room draw process has completed (April). Students will receive notification of available housing in early April. Placements for the fall term will continue to be made on a rolling basis up until the start of the fall term.
  • Spring Term Placement Period
    • The placement period for the spring term opens in November. Students will receive notification of available housing in late November. Placements for the spring term will continue to be made on a rolling basis up until the start of the spring term.
Can I see my status or my position on the waitlist?
Because placements are offered to students within their Residential College first, before being offered to any other students, it is not possible to report on waitlist position.

How likely is it that I will be offered an assignment off the waitlist?
The likelihood of being offered an on-campus housing assignment off the waitlist depends on a variety of factors, such as eligibility, housing availability, and the timing of space openings. Students on the waitlist are assigned to available spaces first within their residential college. If no spaces remain there, assignments may be made in annex housing and/or across the residential colleges. Waitlist students should expect to share suite or rooms, and single-room accommodations are not guaranteed.

Historically, the undergraduate housing office has been able to provide housing to all students who have requested housing via the waitlist. Though, it is important to note that joining the waitlist does not guarantee housing, so alternative plans (such as off-campus housing) should be considered if you’re uncertain about securing a spot.

Can I request a specific bathroom designation if I’m on the waitlist?
When submitting a request to be added to the waitlist, you will have the opportunity to provide additional relevant information to the Housing Office to aid in your placement. You may make this request at that point. Please note that while requests related to waitlist placements will be considered, they are unlikely to be met.

Can I request to live with other people on the waitlist or join a group with a placeholder?
Students on the waitlist cannot participate in room draw and will not have access to form or join groups.  When submitting a request to be added to the waitlist, you will have the opportunity to provide additional relevant information to the Housing Office to aid in your placement. You may make this request at that point.  Please note that while requests related to waitlist placements will be considered, they are unlikely to be met.

Can I request a specific room?
When submitting a request to be added to the waitlist, you will have the opportunity to provide additional relevant information to the Housing Office to aid in your placement. I am currently seeking reinstatement and want to live on-campus. Can I still join the waitlist?
Yes, you are eligible to join the waitlist while your reinstatement is pending. However, your eligibility to receive a housing assignment is contingent upon the approval of your reinstatement. A housing assignment will not be offered until your reinstatement is approved and finalized. If your reinstatement is approved after you’ve joined the waitlist, you will be considered for housing based on availability at that time.

I submitted a request for an accommodation through the SAS office. How will this impact my housing request?
Students with pending accommodation decisions are still expected to take action regarding their housing assignment within the provided deadline, assuming that receiving on-campus housing is their top priority. If you are later approved for an accommodation after accepting your waitlist offer, your housing assignment will be adjusted if necessary and if a room is available.

Can I request a different room than what was offered?
Assignments are not able to be changed. Students can either choose to accept the assignment or decline on-campus housing. Students who choose not to accept their assignment can opt to submit another request for housing in hopes of getting a different assignment. Though, please note that this does not guarantee a different room.
