Fall 2026
New Student Move In
Move in for first-year students will take place on Sunday, August 23rd from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. All incoming first-year students should plan to arrive to campus during this time. The Yale College Dean’s Office and Residential Colleges will provide additional information closer to August 23rd, including detailed move in day instructions.
Move in for all incoming transfer students is scheduled for Sunday, August 23rd from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Incoming transfer students should arrive during this move in window and follow instructions provided by their college and transfer office.
All students must sign up for a move in appointment via the Housing Portal, which opens for students later in the summer. For more information related to move in, please visit the Planning Your Move and FAQ pages.
Upper Level Student Move In
Residential colleges open for upper level student move in on Sunday, August 30th, at 9:00 AM. Upper level students may not move in earlier than August 30th; there are no exceptions. All students must sign up for a move in appointment via the Housing Portal, which opens for students later in the summer.
Upper level students may arrive to campus between Sunday, August 30th and Monday, August 31st. It is expected that upper level students will make arrangements to arrive between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM as the ability to assist students who arrive after 5:00 PM is limited. Please select an appointment after 5:00 PM only if absolutely necessary, as your college will need to provide special accommodations. Students who arrive after 5:00 PM without an existing appointment will not be accommodated.
Please refer to separate communications from your Residential College or the Yale College Dean’s Office with additional information.
Pre-Term Housing
If you are approved for pre-term housing due to your role as a student leader, your participation in Fall athletics, or your assistance with orientation activities, you will receive specific instructions about arrival and check in from your program director and Residential College. Pre-term housing is only available to preapproved groups sponsored by Yale College.
How to make or change a move in appointment
To make an appointment
The Fall Move In portal will open to students over the summer. All students are expected to schedule a move in appointment indicating when they plan to return to campus. Accurate move in appointments are crucial to the residential college staff and campus partners as they plan for your return. When the portal opens, please follow the steps below to make your move in appointment:

-
Click “Schedule Your Move In” on the top menu bar.
-
Using the dropdown, select “Schedule Move In”

A calendar will display, with available timeslots to the right. Select an available appointment.
- Note that first-year students will only see available appointments for Sunday, August 23rd and upper level students will only see appointments available for Sunday, August 30th - Monday, August 31st.
- Students who are approved for pre-term housing will have the ability to select a move in appointment on the date provided by their sponsoring program.

To confirm or reschedule your appointment
Move in appointments can be changed or cancelled at any time up to 48 hours in advance. Weekend appointments must be confirmed by the Friday prior to your appointment, no later than 8:30AM (EST). If your plans change, please update your move in appointment so the Residential College staff and campus partners have the correct information. Be advised that students who must suddenly and unexpectedly arrive later than 5:00PM (EST) on their previously scheduled arrival date may not be able to make new on-campus arrival arrangements for the same day. College Office staff are available until 5:00PM (EST) Mon-Fri for assistance in making same-day arrival plans. If an unexpectedly late-arriving student cannot reach their Residential College Office before 5:00PM (EST) Mon-Fri to arrange for an after-hours check-in, they might consider either staying off-campus or with a friend until the office reopens.
- Visit the Housing Portal and log-in with your Net ID and password

- Using the dropdown, select “View Appointment”
- Your existing appointment is displayed in the “My Appointments” section
